The word “cherub” is derived from the word “angel.” Cherub garden statues replicate the celestial winged being that usually takes the form of playful children or young men, although animal cherubs exist in some other cultures. Cherubs have roots in many faiths and religions and go back way before biblical times recognized as angels or attendants of God. In many world cultures, angels in general are thought to be messengers or “go-betweens” between Man and God. They are believed to exist in a place that is inaccessible to influence from the devil. As a result, angels are a popular source of inspiration due to their protective and good hearted nature.
Many people today have cherub garden statues in their yards because of the belief that they can ward off evil and promote happiness and well-being to those around them. There are also instances where people choose to own a cherub garden statue in memorial of a lost child. It is thought that the cherub is a guardian angel that awaits the souls of those who have passed on and guides them to their final destiny. Whether home owners choose cherub garden statues for religious reasons or just for aesthetic reasons, these statues provide a feeling of peace around the home. They can evoke a feeling of tranquility that allows us to take a step back from our everyday busy life to appreciate what life has to offer.
There are many poses and styles that garden cherub statues can come in. A common pose is the kneeling angel or cherub pose that implies a moment of prayer and peace. Typically, the angel is deep in thought while praying quietly among the flowers and grass of your garden. This kind of idea can also be portrayed through an angel that is standing but has his or her eyes closed. The gardening angel statue is a lighthearted image that provides a welcoming atmosphere to your yard. This angel can be seen with gardening tools at the feet and holding a small bowl in her arms that users can fill with birdseed or even a small potted plant if they so desire. To push this aspect further, manufacturers also produce angel statues holding a bowl birdfeeder just for that purpose alone, enabling for your garden to beckon birds and other of nature’s wildlife around your home.
Cherub garden statues are made from a wide variety of materials common in garden ornaments such as stone, wood, resin, metal, and concrete. Any of these materials will naturally age with the elements while still providing enjoyment for many years. Garden statues usually come with different finishes as well, and this also applies to cherub and angel figurines. One general finish is the moss finish in which the statue has a slight discoloring on the surface to give the object a classic nature’s look. The finishes are applied by hand to enhance every detail and results in a uniqueness of no two pieces being exactly alike. For more high end statues, some people hand carve these works of art out of classic marble to enhance the beauty and spiritual nature of angels.
